Taking a course is a very good start. Getting a job, even part time, at a florist shop is an excellent way to increase your flower arranging skills. By working in the industry you will learn how to make wedding centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnieres and which flowers are in season for spring, summer, fall and winter weddings. You will also learn from your employer about where he/she buys their flowers and other materials, and how much they mark them up. When you are confident enough you can start your very own business.

using the overture tool – the term “silk flowers” returned 33 thousand queries per month in the yahoo network. Also keep in mind that it is only one of thousands of terms that can bring interested visitors to a site on this topic.
What that means for you is that there are people who are looking for it online. As to whether that means they will buy online is another question but i think it a safe assumption that there is at least a market for it.
The next step for you should be to look at some of the other companies that seem to be doing well and give them a ring to see how they are doing with their online businesses.
Tell them you are an MBA doing a research project or something. Most business owners love to talk about their brilliant business successes.
Another great tool is google trends. Http://google.com/trends?q=silk+flowers
this will give you some idea of demand in google, seasonality and the most interested locations geographicaly.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Mark asks…
Would the flowers Lily of the Valley, Hawthorn, and Larkspur look good together in a flower arrangement?
Trying to decide on flowers for my wedding. My birthday is in May and my finance’s is in July. Our wedding is going to be in July and the colors are yellow and white (very original). I don’t know much about weddings and practically nothing about flowers. Just trying to get an idea of what might be nice.

Go to your local craft store – AC Moore is good if you have one and put fake flowers together to see how they look.

Helen asks…
I need a name for my small business?
Me, my mother in law and my cousin are starting a small craft business. We will be making little girls dresses, purses, hair bows, burp cloths, etc. We also do flower arrangements for weddings and such. Our last names are Taylor and Branch. We would like a clever name that kind of plays off of our last names, if possible. Thank you so much!

Taylor & Branch Lines
Taylor & Branch Specials (pun on Special Branch)
or, a near anagram, Chantry Bay
Trouble with a name based on two surnames is that it sounds like an accountancy or real estate firm. Are your surnames so well known that people will know what it is you do? I would go for a cute, little-girl name, eg
Sugar’n'Spice
Buttons and Bows
Cute and Chic

Ken asks…
How do you make “cement or concrete filled containers to hold flowers outside on tables for weddings as decor.
I need to make little bases for holding flower and balloon arrangements outside as decorations for tables. I need something fairly heavy so they don’t fall over. Can I use cement or concrete of some kind and which does the best job. I would like to fill little flower pots with the “cement” and then put small arrangements of balloons and flowers inside. These will be used for several occasions. What are your suggestions?

Order Flowers Delivery Expert answers:
If your talking about concrete, check in your area for concrete blocks and get them in half the size they usually are made. You can wrap something around them to make them look presentable. There is a hole in the middle or you can get them filled in so watch what you are given.

Laura asks…
Catholic Weddings?
I’m trying to get a budget for my wedding. The first thing I need to take into consideration is the donation cost and ceremony expenses.
In general, how much is a donation for the use of a Catholic Church for a wedding? If it’s different for every Church (which I’m sure it is) Just please give me the amount you know.
In addition, how did any Catholic brides decorate the church. As far as I know, I thought you were not allowed to decorate the church. Besides a few flower arrangements for the Alter. Do I even need those?
I don’t plan on doing any extra decorating of the church. I think it’s a horrible idea to put tulle and bows on a Holy place. Churches are beautiful enough without that.
Anyway. Please give me any and all information regarding the cost of a Catholic Ceremony.
Also, please include the price of your pre-cana classes and material. Please keep that seperate from the ceremony costs though.
Thanks for the Help!

Order Flowers Delivery Expert answers:
A $300-500 donation is what is given at many parishes.
In regards to decorations, that depends on the church. Some allow you to bring in all you want, but they must stay at the church, others allow you to only decorate with a couple on the altar and a few others here and there, which can be transferred to your reception location.
I think less is more!! But a couple at the altar, another two near the first pew, where parents usually sit, and hang small arrangements along the first 5 alternating pews. Therefore these costs will vary
Pre Cana classes are generally $ 100 the couple.
Total: $400-600 plus decoration of your choice
