Hmm not sure but I do know that if you take a white rose, leave it in blue water (which is made blue by putting blue food coloring in it) that the flower will pull the color up into its petals and be that color. But as far as making new flowers, botanists do it all the time so I’d encourage you to give it a try

Daniel asks…
Is there any such thing as a blue rose?
I was looking for blue rose plants over the weekend, and everything I read says that roses lack the DNA to make blue pigment. So, on Etsy.com just now, I saw 2 different people selling blue roses. Is that a scam?
It seems too good to be real, right?

Blue roses, often portrayed in literature and art as a symbol of love and prosperity to those who seek it, do not exist within nature, due to genetic limitations being imposed upon natural variance. Traditionally, white roses have been dyed blue to produce a blue appearance; in 2004, researchers have used genetic modification to create blue pigmented roses. A blue rose is traditionally a flower of the genus Rosa (family Rosaceae) that presents blue-to-violet pigmentation and also the Morganus Clarke sunflower seed disposition, instead of the more common red or white variety.[

Question about blue roses…?
I wanted to plant a rose bush over my pets grave, and I heard besides dying and spraying the roses blue, you can dye the bark on the roots, and the roses will be blue. I heard this in a article (that has been proven), but besides that article, I have not seen anything about this. Can you actually do this, or is dying and spraying the only way?…
Each rose color means a different thing, and blue means fantasy and impossibility, which was just like her personality.

Chris asks…
If placed in dye will a white rose turn completely blue?
If I place a white rose in blue dye let’s say for 24 hours, will the rose turn completely blue?
I am wanting to place at least two roses in a vase with water, of course, and some plant food along with blue dye so that I can have healthy blue roses.
Problem is… will the rose turn completely blue?

Order Flowers Delivery Expert answers:
The way that roses (and any other flower) will turn another color is if they are placed in dye (mixed with water so it is somewhat diluted) and the liquid is absorbed through the stem. If you want the rose to turn completely blue, I’m sure it would take longer than 24 hours. The rose will absorb the water through the many vein-like tubes that carry water and nutrients to the rest of the flower. I majored in Horticulture in High School (it was a Tech school) and we had best results if the water was luke warm and the rose was left out of a cooler. That way the cooler does not slow the water intake and the color will absorb faster if left at room temp.
Hope this helps!

Michael asks…
How high will new plants climb?
I want to put up a trellis and train clematis and roses on it. I bought two multi-blue clematis plants and just noticed that I have a smallish climbing rose in my back yard (my first spring in this house) that I’ll transplant in the fall (it’s blooming beautiful now). My question is how high can I expect my clematis to grow this summer (about 6 inches tall now)? And when I transplant my roses this fall should I train it to the trellis or lay it on the ground and protect it for the winter? I live in mid-Michigan if it’s of any help.

The old saying about clematis growth is, “The first year they sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap.” Growth may seem slow as the plant builds its root system, but once established, clematis are strong growers.
